I am failing at the “New Normal.” There I said it. This COVID19 is so hard! Everyone keeps saying this is the “new normal.” I am all for staying home and enjoying my kids and having more family time. I am, however, not made for homeschooling four kids, working from home, keeping this house clean, and all the other balls I have juggling in my hands. Having a slow internet connection out here in the country makes everything even harder, my husband and I are working from home, and our kids need to learn online. Let me tell you, my slow internet is not able to support doing this much online!
So here I am stressed out about trying to slow down. How does that even make sense? We have all this time now available, I should not be stressed! I should feel like I have all the time in the world to do all the things. Yet here I am getting nothing done and feeling like we have no time to do it all. Who’s with me on this? Then don’t even get me started on my friends who are the “perfect COVID19 mom.” I love you all, but I am over here trying to tread water, and some moms are out swimming laps.
The other night I just sort of stopped myself and decided I was being silly. There is no “winner for the best quarantine mom.” Did you hear me? THERE IS NO WINNER! (I am yelling that at myself) It’s okay not to do all the crafts, all the school, and all the other things. However, if you are like me, you are putting your time with God in the mix of things you don’t have time for. This is the one time when we should have more time, yet we don’t, right? I have no magic solution for this. Some people say, “wake up early,” but I am not a morning person. So here is my challenge to you: find a time that works for you and devote 15 minutes each day to God. It can be over coffee. It can be before your kids wake up, before you go to bed, while you are in the shower even. I am taking my own challenge, and I am going to try to carve out my 15 minutes wherever I can. God is craving your attention, and I think if anything, NOW IS THE TIME our world needs extra prayer.
I recently read 2 Chronicles 7:13, and it really spoke to me. God just wants us, He craves our attention, and He loves when we talk to Him. Mathew 18:20 says when “when two or three gather in my name I am there with him.” How great would it be if the whole world was praying? God is listening. And amongst all this crazy, and having all this time and yet, feeling like we don’t have any, my point is: make time to pray. God is waiting.
